Monthly Traffic Data update for May 2026
The Vehicle Activated Signs (VAS) record all traffic movements in and out of our village. There are three signs located at Moor Road, East Road and Ladywell. On a monthly basis, the data from these signs is downloaded and a detailed summary produced. This shows the number of vehicles coming into (inbound) or out of the village (outbound) passed these 3 signs, the number per day on average, the number of vehicles speeding and that number as a % of the total.
Please see the summary below which shows the number of vehicles that have left the village via the 3 roads covered by the signs in the month of May. It then shows the average per day, the number of vehicles that exceed 30mph on each road and that number as a % of the total. In the notes, it shows details of the fastest speeding vehicle in the month, eg 55mph on the 22nd May 2026 at 23:00pm going up Moor Road from the crossroads towards the A66.
The increase in the number of vehicles going through the village in May is 210 vehicles per day up on April. I assume this is due to the issue of the traffic lights at Scotch Corner. On the Friday morning the Parish Council were meeting a representative from NY Highways on Moor Road, over 565 vehicles went up Moor Road in a 5 hour period. This figure was up from 253 the previous Friday. Potentially these extra vehicles had come off the A1M at Barton, come down East Road and then driven up Moor Road to the A66. This clearly shows the impact of issues on the 2 major roads in our vicinity.
