In spite of a worrying shower at lunchtime, the afternoon weather cheered up and many families set up gazebos, picnic rugs and barbecues on the green.
The Royal Scarecrow competition had 14 excellent entries and thanks to Sally Williamson from the Black Bull, the winners were:
Will & Kate – the Pearson family scarecrow (14) in Scots Dyke 
2nd: Queen Mother – the Robertson scarecrow (6) in West Road
3rd =: Queen Mother(2) theMiller scarecrow (4) in High Row
3rd=: Anne Boleyn the Chilton scarecrow (9) in Moor Road
Here are the other entries and with next year being the Queen’s 60th Jubilee, perhaps this event can be repeated – with even more entries!
