Monthly Traffic Data – Update for February 2026

The Vehicle Activated Signs (VAS) record all traffic movements in and out of our village. There are three signs located at Moor Road, East Road and Ladywell. On a monthly basis, the data from these signs is downloaded and a detailed summary produced. This shows the number of vehicles coming into (inbound) or out of the village (outbound) passed these 3 signs, the number per day on average, the number of vehicles speeding and that number as a % of the total. See full summary below.

After authorisation from the Meslsonby Parish Council, on Monday 23rd February, the Speedwatch team turned all 3 Vehicle Activated Signs (VAS) to point in the opposite direction. This will provide data about the speeds of vehicles driving out of the village (outbound) and hopefully attract the attention of all drivers as the flashing signs will be pointing the other way.

To ensure the VAS signs were still working correctly and to gain an initial snapshot of what the data would tell us, I have completed a download and summary of one weeks data. Please see this summary below.

My initial thoughts are:

Volumes – Moor Road busier inbound – East Road much busier inbound and Ladywell volumes nearly equal.
Speeds – Moor Road and East Road are similar however Ladywell speeding inbound is much worse that outbound.
Speed % – Moor Road and Ladywell are high. 20%+ drivers are driving too fast in the very heart of the village.
