Bringing Christmas to Melsonby

Bringing Christmas to Melsonby came about following discussions between friends regarding lighting
up Melsonby. They also then thought it would be great to bring Santa back for his yearly visit to The Black Bull as hadn’t happened in previous years.

In 2022, a group of residents came together and arranged Santa’s visit for that year with individuals providing donations for the presents. The group was officially formed in 2023, with a committee and bank account. The remaining money from the Santa’s visit in 2022 was used to start the group. In that year they raised more money with a Race Night held at The Black Bull which funded the Santa visit for that year and set them on their way to replace the old Christmas tree lights and add additional lights for two of the trees on the green. We also organised our inaugural Santa Run which was very well attended and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. The aim is to add to the Christmas lights on the green, continue with the Santa Run and to support other events around the festive period.

They want to encourage all residents of Melsonby to get involved and to light up their own houses and gardens. They have already discussed a competition to bring areas of Melsonby together with prizes to be awarded to the best displays. As a group they intend to be fully transparent. Our accounts will be
published yearly to let people know how the money is being spent.

They main aim, however, is to light up the faces of children and adults alike during the festive period.
