Response from NYC Highways – Swire Way entrance, repair work to potholes

The Parish Council raised concerns regarding the repair work to the potholes on Swire Way entrance. Please see the response below from NYC Highways:

I refer to your e-mail of 11th March 2025 regarding the above.

I can confirm that the work carried out at the above was used with a well proven permanent cold-lay repair material which I have no doubt will last for a very good period of time. Repairs of this nature may not look nice when first done but the Council occasionally has to undertake this type of repair for obvious safety concerns.

The way that the material was placed by one of my Highways Officers may seem crude but was in fact done so in accordance with the product guidelines. Melsonby is regularly inspected and I will ensure that this particular location is monitored. If you do see some early failure then please let me know.

If some pothole areas are felt to have been missed it may well be because they do not meet the actionable depth limit.

I trust that the above helps.

Kind regards

Steve Barker

Maintenance Manager
