The Parish Council met with Highways in mid November 2024 as a number of issues in the village had not been resolved. A comprehensive list of the issues were agreed and shared. An update was received on 15th March 2025. These issues are discussed and monitored through the Parish Councils meetings and recorded in minutes. Please see the latest email update below:
Hello Jenny
I refer to your e-mail of 11th March 2025 regarding the above.
Please see my comments below against the various items raised.
1. Road sweep around village to remove leaves which will show further road surface damage and potholes – we are working with the Richmond locality team to have the carriageways swept where required within the village.
2. Far end of West Road- pipe under road to be cleared along with sump in field of Resident – high-pressure jetting required and this is on our list of sites. Landowner details have been requested.
3. Self seeded trees and shrubs to be cleared on all verges on East and West Roads – this has been added to future works for either flailing back or removal.
4. Overhanging trees to be cut back on East Road especially where branches have died due to ivy – this matter is ongoing and being discussed with the landowner.
5. Meeting with owner of ‘The Vicarage’ re cutting back of their trees and repairing wall damage – issue not resolved yet. Landowner details are being sought before a visit is made / letter written.
6. Highways responsible for trees in the verges by the Vicarage to be done at same time – currently ongoing. This may be done as part of work on East Road.
7. Verges to be moved back to proper road width – we are aware of this and works order will be placed once the vegetation is cut back.
8. Letters from NYC to residents where trees/hedges have overgrown onto roads and footpaths causing restrictions – this is an ongoing process.
9. Potholes to be repaired on all roads especially around drainage covers, including junction near pub and Junction along from Vicarage by Glebe House and by entrance to Everards nursery and Church Row – some work has taken place and other works orders are being placed for those defects which are categorised as actionable / in line with our Highway Safety Inspection Manual.
10. High Row re-surface – this has been added to our list of future Capital works.
11. Moor Road – water leak area to be excavated and repaired – down toward crossroad from new properties – investigation work was to be ordered but Yorkshire Water Authority has apparently excavated within that location. Discussions being had to ascertain what they have highlighted.
12. A further debris catcher to be installed on Moor Road by Last Ex council house – this needs to be looked at in more detail with likely discussions with the Council’s Flood Risk management Team.
13. Not mentioned during meeting but advised to NYC a dangerous curb on entrance/exit for Harelands—suggest white dotted line between the 2 curbs to show drivers that one is further into the road – I understand that Ian Beighton, of the Area 1 Office, may have been dealing with this one recently.
14. Letters to landowners re their responsibility for ditch cleaning – this is ongoing in many locations but often a protracted process
15. Soil to be removed from stop tap cover near Jagger Lane—you probably did this on the day – the metal stop tap / chamber cover was located and the earth was cleared from above.
I realise that some of the above issues are still to be resolved but I will ensure that you are kept up to date with progress. I trust that this meets with your approval.
Kind regards
Steve Barker
Maintenance Manager
